Big Redevelopment Proposed at Former Anco Plant
The city of Valparaiso, Flaherty & Collins Properties and a craft spirit distiller are in the early stages of hammering out details on what could be a $120 million transformation of a former windshield wiper factory. The Indianapolis-based developer was chosen by the city’s Redevelopment Commission over another finalist, South Bend-based Holladay Properties, to continue discussions on the old Anco factory property.
Michigan-based Journeyman Distillery is also planning a second location at the property. Its investment would be separate from Flaherty & Collins’ $78 million proposal for its part of the redevelopment. The vision for the site, which is along the ChicaGo Dash commuter bus line, could involve more than 500 apartments, retail, commercial office and restaurant space. The distiller is looking to overhaul a 130,000 square-foot office building, turning it into a distillery, hotel, restaurant and banquet facility.
Groundbreaking, Flaherty & Collins says, could begin in a year. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report another developer, South Bend-based Holladay Properties, was runner-up and proposed a $32 million investment for its portion of the project.
