The Colorado-based Brewers Association’s inaugural ranking, which includes Donum Dei Brewery in New Albany, considered production totals reported in its annual survey.
Donum Dei is among a handful of breweries in Indiana’s neighboring states to be on the list. Paddle Hard Brewing and Ellison Brewery & Spirits of Michigan, and Platform Beer Co. and Royal Docks Brewing Co. of Ohio were the others. The Floyd County brewery was launched in 2015 by Chief Executive Officer Kimberly Otey and Brewer Richard Otey. Donum Dei says it produces all of its beer on-site in a 10-barrel setup in its tap room. It recently branched out into the distilling business and the brewery’s website says future plans include a small network of beer keg and bottle distribution.
Brewers Association Chief Economist Bart Watson says "with 5 percent growth overall for small and independent brewers in 2017 and microbreweries and brewpubs delivering the majority of that, we wanted to spotlight some of the breweries driving that growth. As the growth base for craft becomes more diffuse, these fast growing brewing companies illustrate that a diverse set of success stories still exist."
