The Legacy Foundation in Merrillville has hired Bushra Rehman as community development director. She has 19 years of academic and association management experience. Rehman previously served as executive director of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science at SmithBucklin Corp. She also previously served as administrative director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and the Clinical Resources Center at The University of Chicago. Rehman earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Adrian College, and her Master of Public Administration at the University of Michigan.

Also, Maranda Fishback has been appointed community engagement coordinator.  She previously served as an intern with the Legacy Foundation through the Lilly Endowment GIFT Internship Program, a grant program funded by Lilly Endowment to give college students internship opportunities at Indiana community foundations. Fishback helped coordinate and execute Legacy’s key events: its annual meeting, scholarship dinner, and Civic Innovators Convening. She grew the foundation’s social media presence through creative online challenges. Fishback started the foundation’s youth philanthropy initiative, named Lake County Teen Action Group, to encourage high school age students to get involved with local nonprofit organizations and learn about responsible grant-making.

In her new role, she will manage three Legacy programs: the Lake County Teen Action Group, RiseNWI, and On the Table. RiseNWI empowers Northwest Indiana residents to become active participants in local government. On the Table is a national initiative funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to build connections within communities through mealtime conversations. Fishback earned her Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University Northwest. She will graduate from Purdue University Northwest in May 2018 with a Master of Business Administration.
