Groundbreaking ceremonies Thursday will recognize two Crawfordsville projects supported by the state’s Stellar Communities program. Construction will begin on what the city calls "key connectors" to its trail system. The more than $1.5 million Pike Place park project is supported through a public-private partnership that includes the state, city, Montgomery County Community Foundation, Wabash College, Vectren Foundation and Tipmont REMC. Trailhead Park, which will costs $480,000, is full-funded through Stellar Communities.

The city says the parks were both designed by Indianapolis-based HWC Engineering. Zionsville’s RL Turner will handle construction, which is slated to be complete by November. Planning has taken two years. Trailhead Park’s final name, which will serve as a tribute to late-former mayor and trail advocate Phil Michal, will be announced later.

The Trailhead Park ceremony will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Pike Place ceremony at 4:00 p.m.
