Ex-Surgeon General to be Featured at Manchester University
A former U.S. Surgeon General will speak Monday afternoon at Manchester University about the country’s opioid crisis. Vivek Murthy will join MU President Dave McFadden on-stage at Cordier Auditorium for a presentation in a "fireside chat" format. Murthy served as surgeon general from December 2014 to April 2017 and issued the office’s first report on substance abuse and addiction.
He called on health professionals throughout the country to take actions to reduce addiction to opioids and decrease overdose deaths. Murthy also led the TurnTheTideRx campaign drawing attention to the epidemic on a national scale.
Murthy previously practiced and taught internal medicine at Harvard Medical School. You can connect to more about the 2018 Harry and Jeanette Henney Lectureship for Business, Education and Science at Manchester by clicking here.
