In a joint statement, the two leaders say the partnership between Indiana and Ontario is vital to the success of workers and businesses in both regions.
The signing comes amid Holcomb’s trade mission to Canada, which began Monday. The leaders say the agreement will result in greater collaboration and shared best practices in economic development and investment, workforce development and academics, among other areas.
"(The) memorandum of understanding will enable Ontario and Indiana to work together even more closely to build on our economic growth, create a more competitive business climate, foster collaboration in research and technology, and create the good jobs that will help our people succeed in a rapidly changing economy," Holcomb and Wynne said. "This continued cooperation will foster innovation and give us a competitive edge in the global market, helping people and businesses on both sides of the border thrive."
The leaders say the trade partnership between Ontario and Indiana is a major economic driver with Ontario being Indiana’s top Canadian export customer. In 2017, two-way trade between the regions totaled more than $15 billion. More than 110 Ontario-owned corporations and small businesses have a presence in Indiana, employing nearly 14,000 Hoosiers.
"Ontario and Indiana remain committed to exploring new opportunities to collaborate in order to drive more growth and innovation in a period of economic change. By working together, we can achieve our shared goal of a bright, prosperous future for the people of Ontario and Indiana."
Holcomb will wrap up is fourth international trade mission Wednesday.
