Trade Mission Brings Out Big Names in Canada
An economic development trip with the state’s largest trading partner is putting Governor Eric Holcomb and the delegation he is leading in front of big-name Canadian leaders. The trip kicked off Monday with a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, cabinet officials and business executives with companies that have ties to Indiana.
The Indiana delegation also includes First Lady Janet Holcomb, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger and Ports of Indiana Chief Executive Officer Rich Cooper. The governor met Monday with President Treasury Board Secretariat Scott Brison, Minister of Small Business and Tourism Bardish Chagger, Minister of Finance Bill Morneau, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrew Leslie.
Monday began with an Indiana business roundtable at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa that featured leaders from major Indiana employers that also have ties to Canada such as Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) and Warsaw-based Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. (NYSE: ZBH). Other participants in the event included Canadian businesses that don’t yet have an international presence like Iogen Corp., Spartan Bioscience, The Dymond Group and Dalcini.
Over 70 Canadian-owned businesses have locations in Indiana and some $20.9 billion in goods were exchanged between Indiana and Canada last year. You can connect to more about the first day of three in Holcomb’s fourth international trade mission by clicking here.
