Hamilton County Rated One of Healthiest Counties in U.S.

Hamilton County is one of the top 10 healthiest counties in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report . The publication partnered with Aetna to devise a list of the country’s top 500 healthiest counties. Specific factors used for the rankings include population health, equity, education, economy, housing, food and nutrition, environment, public safety, community vitality and infrastructure. Population health and equity were the most heavily weighted categories.  Nearly 3,000 communities were scored from 1-100 on each factor.

Hamilton County came in 7th overall, with its highest score being economy, which was rated a 91.2 by the magazine. Community vitality and infrastructure were the other top factors pushing Hamilton County into the top 10. Hamilton County’s lowest score came in the housing category, which was 58.5. Other Indiana counties on the list were Hendricks at #101, Hancock was #137, Boone #149, Johnson County came in at #270, Warrick at #280, Dubois was #330, Whitley at #469 and Porter County came in at #478.

The top five healthiest counties on the list were:

1. Falls Church city, Virginia
2. Douglas County, Colorado
3. Broomfield County, Colorado
4. Los Alamos County, New Mexico
5. Dukes County, Massachusetts
