Indiana ‘Micropolitans’ Ranked Nationally For Developments

Subscribe NowA national publication’s list of the top "micropolitan" areas for facility investments last year includes six Indiana cities. Overall, Site Selection magazine says Indiana ranked sixth in the U.S. and its communities on the list racked up a total of 20 investments in 2017.
The publication says qualifying cities and towns are statistical areas with one or more adjacent county that have at least one urban core area of 10,000-50,000 people and adjacent territory "that has a high degree of social and economic integration with the core as measured by commuting ties." Findlay, Ohio, which is about an hour from the Indiana border, has been the top-ranked micropolitan on the list for four straight years. Angola had twice as many investments last year, six, as any other Indiana micropolitan.
The Indiana cities in the Top 100 are:

- T41. Auburn, 3
- T41. Marion, 3
- T41. New Castle, 3
- T41. Warsaw, 3
- T64. Wabash, 2
Steuben County Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Isaac Lee says "the City of Angola, Steuben County, and the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation are truly excited about being listed again on the Top Micropolitan list for 2017. Ranking tied for 10th is the highest our community has ranked, and to even rank is truly an honor. This is a testament to the many organizations and individuals that partner to achieve this award. Furthermore, to be listed with three other Northeast Indiana communities just goes to show that we have a lot to offer here in the region."
