Four more Indiana counties are under a disaster emergency declaration following intense rains earlier this month that caused damage throughout much of the state. Governor Eric Holcomb has added the southeast and northwest Indiana counties to the list that now totals 22. The executive order is a necessary step toward requesting federal government assistance.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Correction, Indiana National Guard, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Indiana Board of Animal Health, Indiana Department of Agriculture, Indiana State Department of Health, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the American Red Cross are all providing services and assistance to the affected areas.

Since Thursday, the state says its Emergency Operations Center has been actively responding to assistance requests from local leaders, coordinating more than 700,000 sandbags, pumps, heavy vehicles and equipment, crews and expertise to aid in recovery.

The counties under the disaster declaration include: Benton, Carroll, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Elkhart, Floyd, Fulton, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Lake, Marshall, Ohio, Perry, Pulaski, Spencer, St. Joseph, Starke, Switzerland, Warrick and White counties.
