New Hotel Opens in Portage

Amerilodge Group has opened a newly-designed Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Portage. The 87-room hotel features the Holiday Inn Express brand's new "Formula Blue" design.

Guestrooms include a flexible work space, functional storage, and movable seating allowing for a customized feel. Asad Malik, President & CEO of the Amerilodge Group said: “It gives us great pleasure to be able to bring a clean, modern, and technology friendly driven lodging accommodation to the Portage community. With the Formula Blue Concept, we expect this to be an award-winning hotel and the preferred lodging choice for the business and leisure travelers in the Portage and Porter County area.”

Hotel amenities include an indoor pool, complimentary Wi-Fi, and also offers over 1,100 square feet of meeting space for up to 100 people. Amerilodge officials expect the new hotel to bring about 30 jobs to the Portage area.

      IDEA Week Offers Something For Everyone

      South by Southwest wrapped up over the weekend in Austin. The week-long event was launched to bring people together to meet, learn and share ideas and it features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. Music and film, and the entertainment industry were the main drivers but over the years the event has grown into so much more. Events like SXSW have served as inspiration for a new event to be offered this spring, IDEA Week 2018.

      Ground Broken on Major South Bend Development

      Construction on the first phase of a planned $38.5 million development in South Bend is underway. Officials broke ground Tuesday on Three Twenty at The Cascade, which will include up to 18 luxury condominiums as well as three commercial restaurants.
