House Bill 1390, authored by Representative Linda Lawson (D-1), includes provisions on discriminatory pay practices and wage disclosure protections. Senate Bill 93, authored by Senator Jean Breaux (D-34), deals with fair pay for similar jobs and empowers the state’s Civil Rights Commission to investigate and resolve complaints.
In addition to the lawmakers at Wednesday’s 10:30 a.m. Statehouse event, civic groups including the Equality Pay$ Coalition of Indiana, the American Association of University Women Indiana, the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women, the Indiana League of Women Voters, the Indianapolis National Organization for Women and Women4Change Indiana will discuss why they favor the bills.
The state’s Democratic coalition says women in Indiana currently make 74 cents for every dollar a Hoosier man earns.
HB 1390 has been referred to the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee and SB 93 is in the same committee on the Senate side. Neither bill is currently scheduled for a hearing this week.
