NCAA Convention to Kick Off in Indy

More than 3,000 attendees will take part in educational sessions, governance meetings and celebrations of student success at the event, which runs through Saturday.
Among the issues being discussed at the convention is a proposal to determine with colleges and universities in Mexico will be permitted to apply for membership to the NCAA’s Division II. Delegates will also vote on proposals to eliminate penalties associated with sports wagering in Divisions II and III.
The organization will Wednesday hold its Honors Celebration which honors former athletes. On Thursday, NCAA President Mark Emmert will deliver his State of College Sports. He will also present MIT Athletics Director Julie Soriero with the NCAA President’s Pat Summitt Award.
During the keynote luncheon Friday, longtime broadcast journalist Robin Roberts will receive the 2018 NCAA President’s Gerald R. Ford Award. She will also participate in a Q&A session with Emmert.
