VINCENNES -

The Red Skelton Museum in Vincennes is launching a comedy film festival. Organizers of the Laughter Film Festival, set for August 10-12, say the goal is for filmmakers to show that they can make a comedy "without sex, gore and four-letter words."

The festival will award prizes for Best Comedy, Best Non-verbal (Silent Spot), Best Physical Comedy, Best Pathos, Best Silly Character and Feel Good Film. Entries are not allowed to have vulgarity, nudity, gore or other adult-oriented material. The submission period begins February 1.

The Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy opened in 2013. It was dedicated on July 18 of that year, which would have been the performer's 100th birthday. In July of last year, the Indiana Historical Bureau held a public ceremony in Vincennes for a new state historical market commemorating Red Skelton in his hometown.
