The funding will support safety and security enhancements at its 40-acre campus, strategic planning efforts and two placemaking initiatives.
The federation is comprised of five agencies: Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Community Center, the Bureau of Jewish Education, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and the Hooverwood nursing home. Its programs and services reach some 2,000 individuals.
Chief Executive Officer Debra Barton Grant calls the contribution from the endowment transformational and says "the impact we produce is substantial and includes, among other programs and services: feeding the hungry, helping the unemployed, providing comfort and care to seniors, educating children and adults, helping individuals be physically fit and healthy, engaging in community workforce development, and building community."
The federation says its annual campaign is comprised of some $3.9 million.
