Beam installation on the White River bridge east of downtown begins this week and the full project is set to be complete in 2020. The Indiana Department of Transportation says the nearly $3 million State Road 32 Jackson Street project will be handled one lane at a time.
During the initial phase, both directions will share one lane on the bridge’s north side. A temporary traffic signal installed earlier this year will continue to maintain alternating traffic lane flows.
The three-span bridge will receive nine new, precast concrete beams. The outer span beams are more than 70 feet-long and weigh around 28 tons apiece, while the three center span beams are over 100 feet long and weigh some 40 tons. Illinois Constructors is handling the construction.
