Michigan City Company Expanding Again

The paper box manufacturer says it will invest nearly $1.3 million to install new equipment to its production line and create 12 jobs at its LaPorte County facility.
The 113-year-old company says the investment will also help retain 87 jobs. In addition to the new equipment, the company plans to use the expansion to launch an e-commerce site where customers can customize and design their own boxes and place orders online.
The manufacturer says it will also be able to produce unique sizes of boxes that it was unable to produce in the past. The Michigan City Council has approved a tax abatement for the expansion.
"I am excited about our future growth and our future in Michigan City," said Al Hoodwin, chief executive officer of Michigan City Paper Box Co. "Everything seems to be coming together in the community and it makes for an attractive place to do business."
In 2016, the company announced a similar expansion which also created a small number of jobs. Last month, Michigan City Paper Box Co. was inducted into the Indiana Manufacturers Hall of Fame.
