Clocktower Project Set to Begin

Subscribe NowAn organization in Montgomery County says work on a new clocktower at the Montgomery County Courthouse will begin immediately, after more than 20 years of fundraising. The Montgomery County Clocktower Committee says the project is expected to be complete in May.
The project will rebuild the clocktower that sat atop the courthouse prior to World War II. The clocktower was torn down during the war after it was reported to be leaning and funding was not available for repairs.
The final bid for the project came in at more than $540,000 and the committee says remained short of funding as of October. However, the Montgomery County Council approved a loan to provide the final amount of financing needed to move forward with the project.
"A downtown is the very heart of a community and several exciting changes are happening in our community that will further improve the experience of those visiting or shopping in downtown Crawfordsville," Mayor Todd Barton said in a news release. "This will be greatly enhanced by restoring the clock tower atop the courthouse and sending a clear message that we take great pride in our community."
