New Nonstop to Phoenix Takes Off
Las Vegas-based Allegiant (Nasdaq: ALGT) has launched a seasonal nonstop flight from Indianapolis International Airport to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The flight, which was announced in June, will run weekdays through February.
The nonstop is one of three new flights added by Allegiant in 2017. The airline also added nonstops to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in Florida.
"This is the first nonstop flight out of Indy to Phoenix-Mesa," said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. "That growth also has contributed to the expansion of the Indy airport’s reach into the western United States – which has increased the value the Indy airport delivers to the Indianapolis community."
Allegiant is also planning a $40 million crew base at Indianapolis International Airport, which it says will help expand its nonstop service. The facility is expected to be operational in February and bring approximately 70 jobs.
"The addition of this route marks our continued growth in Indianapolis," said Lukas Johnson, senior vice president of commercial for Allegiant. "With the addition of our new crew base in February and an increased flight schedule in 2018, Indianapolis has proven to be a great market for us, and we’re excited to offer new flights to Phoenix and our other great destinations to Indy travelers."
Earlier this week, another seasonal nonstop flight, offered by Frontier Airlines, from IND to Tampa began service.
