Aunt Millie’s Closing to Affect 91 in Fort Wayne

The 116-year-old company’s six remaining baking facilities will continue to operate, as will its headquarters, which houses around 120 of approximately 1,600 total employees. The decision will affect 91 workers.
The first phases of the closing will begun this month and will continue through April. Aunt Millie’s says employees have been informed of the move and those affected will be offered transitional assistance.
President John Popp says "due to the current business environment and after undertaking a capacity and logistical analysis, we determined we need to close our Fort Wayne bakery This is a critical step in reducing excess capacity and costs, to allow ourselves to maintain our leadership position in the baking industry. We reached this extremely difficult but necessary decision after thoroughly exploring other options."
It has facilities in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio and distributes baked goods throughout the three aforementioned states, as well as eastern Illinois and northern Kentucky. The family-owned business says its Aunt Millie’s and Sunbeam-branded products will still be found throughout the Midwest.
