James Durst, superintendent of the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, has received the highest honor awarded by the Council of Schools and Services for the Blind. He received the William H. English Award at the council’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award recognizes "outstanding leadership and service to students who are blind and visually impaired, the Council, and the field."

Durst has served in the field of blindness education for more than 40 years and is in his 16th year as superintendent at the Indianapolis school. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Clarion University in Pennsylvania and license in Administration from Butler University. Durst also holds certifications and pursued coursework from Eastern Michigan University, Western Maryland University and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
