Ice Miller LLP has added seven attorneys to five different practice groups. Each member of the 2017 fall associate class has professional experience as a law clerk, summer associate, legal intern or non-legal professional.

Chrissy Astbury (pictured) is an associate in the litigation group. She received her Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a minor in entrepreneurial and small business management in 2011 from Indiana University. After graduating with distinction, Astbury worked for a public relations and social media marketing agency in Fishers, ultimately earning the title of senior account executive. She received her juris doctorate, magna cum laude, in 2017 from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis.

Roberto Falconi (pictured) is an associate in the business group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, federal and state securities law, regulatory compliance and general corporate matters. Falconi previously worked in the insurance industry for nine years where he held both Property & Casualty and Life & Health Insurance Licenses. He received his Associate of Arts, with high distinctions, from Jefferson Community College in 2005. Falconi then earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2009. In 2017, he graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Illinois.

Von Lovan is an associate in the Business Group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance and general corporate matters. In 2013, Lovan graduated cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He was a legal intern for the Indiana Prosecutor’s Office and a summer clerk for Ice Miller. Lovan earned his juris doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law where he graduated cum laude.

Whitney Rogers is an associate in the municipal finance group with an emphasis on tax-exempt financings by schools and libraries. She received her Bachelor of Science in agricultural business management from the Purdue University College of Agriculture. Rogers previously served as a national account manager with Coyote Logistics for three years. She clerked for Ice Miller in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, she received her juris doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, cum laude, with a certificate in energy, environmental and natural resources.

Paul Schmitt is an associate in the litigation group, concentrating his practice in the area of financial litigation. He received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Schmitt is commissioned from the University of Illinois’ Air Force ROTC program and served as an officer in the United States Air Force for more than four years. He also worked for the Illinois Republican State Senate Campaign Committee and the Illinois State Senate prior to attending law school. Schmitt graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law.

Sterling Shown is an associate in the trusts and estates group, focusing her practice on tax-exempt organizations and charitable giving. She received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in political science from the University of Kentucky. Shown then attended Washington University School of Law where she earned her juris doctorate. She clerked for Ice Miller as a summer associate in 2016.

Annie Xie is an associate in the real estate group where she assists clients in all areas of real estate transactions. She graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University and received her Bachelor of Science in environmental science with double minors in philosophy and economics. During law school, Xie worked as an intern with the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago, Illinois and was a certified mediator handling cases in small claims court. She graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. 

Also, Josh Schnell has been named a partner in the federal government contracts practice. He is located in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He counsels clients on compliance issues, audits and investigations, small business set-asides, equitable adjustments, claim preparation and suspension and debarment proceedings. Schnell also litigates contract disputes and bid protests before federal agencies, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Prior to joining the firm, he was a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s commercial litigation branch, where he defended numerous federal agencies in complex government contracting litigation before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Schnell has also worked as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Through his experience, he understands how the federal government awards, administers, regulates and litigates government contracts and grants.
