Anthem Partnership Aims to Improve Health Care Delivery
Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) has announced a partnership with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. The collaboration involves the study and pilot of new ideas in an effort to improve health care quality, accessibility and affordability.
Anthem says its outcomes-research subsidiary, HealthCore Inc., the Wharton School and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, also located at the University of Pennsylvania, will explore several topics including health care quality, patient safety, payment reform, and consumer engagement.
"At this time of unprecedented change facing our industry, it is important for all of us to work together to improve how health care is delivered every day to consumers," said Craig Samitt, chief clinical officer for Anthem. "With this unique partnership, we aim to take research a step further to evaluate innovative, evidence-driven ideas using real-time pilots, to help drive transformation and improve accessibility, affordability, and quality."
The company says the collaboration will center on the business and economics of health insurance and health care delivery and their effects on the markets, organizations and individuals. Guy David, associate professor in the Department of Health Care Management at the Wharton School, says the combination of knowledge among the partners will help "better understand key organizational, financial and managerial aspects of health care delivery."
