More than 2,700 homes were sold in the 15-county region, up from 2,600 sold during the same month last year.
Of the counties tracked by F.C. Tucker, nine saw an increase in home sales last month with Morgan and Johnson counties seeing the largest jumps at 26.8 and 25.1 percent, respectively. The company says the average year-to-date home price for the region increased to $199,240, a 5.9 percent jump over the same month in 2016.
"Three-quarters of the way through 2017, the housing market has remained strong for sellers," said Jim Litten, chief executive officer of F.C. Tucker Co. "However, we continue to see homes in all price ranges coming on the market, so buyers should be optimistic that the home they are searching for is attainable."
F.C. Tucker says the number of active listings dropped 15.4 percent in September to 8,597. Brown County was the only one to report an increase in active listings, which rose 28.5 percent. Mongtomery and Shelby counties saw the biggest drops in active listings at 26.6 and 26.5 percent, respectively.
