RICHMOND -

Ivy Tech Foundation Richmond says it has finalized a major gift agreement with network infrastructure platform Belden Inc. to create a training program. As part of the agreement, Ivy Tech has created the Belden Workforce Training Program, leading to paid internship opportunities for high school seniors.

The training program will start this fall at the Richmond High School Career Center. It will also include White Belt certification training focusing on quality assurance, customer relations, problem solving, eliminating waste and project teamwork. The training will run through Ivy Tech's Workforce Excellence Program, which the school says is based on top career readiness skills identified through employer surveys by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

The school says the internship will be a "structured, experiential learning opportunity" that will include an intern coach for seniors in their final semester of high school. The intent is that students will continue working at Belden after graduation. The company's commitment is for five years. Vice President Doug Brenneke calls the agreement part of the company's "long and proud history with the Richmond community."

Belden makes network infrastructure products for the industrial, enterprise and broadcast markets. The company has offices in Richmond and Indianapolis.
