Crowdfunding Campaign Targets Evansville Trolley
A group of civic organizations in Evansville has launched a crowdfunding campaign to add a trolley line connecting the city’s cultural districts. The group is looking to raise $25,000 by mid-November to start the Trolley of Evansville Districts, or TED.
The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, one of the organizations involved in the campaign, says if the $25,000 goal is reached, the Indiana Housing Community Development Authority will provide a $25,000 matching grant. As of Friday evening, the campaign had raised more than $9,600.
The fundraising initiative is being managed by the Growth Alliance and the Franklin Street Events Association. The latter will handle the long-term management of TED once the campaign is over.
"Studies show that communities that are connected provided higher quality of place, help attract and retain creatives and change agents, and help drive tourism traffic," the campaign said. "We expect TED to increase traffic to our local businesses, to allow people in different neighborhoods easier access to other neighborhoods, and to provide an entertaining new way for residents and visitors to experience Evansville. To put it simply, our increased connectivity will promote happy living spaces, increase business, and is best practice for our city."
If TED begins running, users can pay $25 for a yearly pass, or pay $1 per ride. The trolley will be FREE during the day on Saturdays.
