Greenwood Seeking Zoning Changes
The city of Greenwood is looking update its zoning rules. Our partners at the Daily Journal report the Greenwood City Council is considering hiring a consultant to do a comprehensive review and overhaul of the city’s zoning and subdivision codes.
The idea is part of the council’s proposed 2018 budget. If approved, the city would pay the consultant $150,000 over two years. The city’s planning director, Bill Peeples, tells the publication the city hasn’t had a major overhaul of the zoning code since 1988.
City Attorney Krista Taggart says one of the priorities of the project would be to create a downtown overlay district, which would dictate what types of businesses can operate in the area and how new buildings constructed in the area must look. Council President Mike Campbell tells the publication plans should be set in motion to ensure uniformity as downtown Greenwood continues to develop.
Peeples says residents and business owners will have the chance to provide feedback on the plan. You can read more about the proposal in the Daily Journal.
