Reuters has ranked two Indiana schools among the "World’s Most Innovative Universities." The news service uses several metrics to determine the annual rankings, including patent volume, global patents and industry article citation impact.

Indiana University ranks the highest in the state, moving up 10 spots to number 27. Purdue University improved one spot to number 32.

"This recognition reflects the dedicated work of IU’s faculty and staff to engage in innovative and transformative research," said IU President Michael McRobbie. "The goal we all share is not merely to advance the bounds of knowledge, but to use this new knowledge to address pressing challenges, create new jobs, foster innovation and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Indiana, the nation and the world."

Reuters only included organizations that filed 70 or more world patents. Each school was then evaluated based on factors such as how often a university’s patent applications were granted, how many patents were filed with global patent offices and local authorities and how often the university’s patents were cited by others. Stanford University tops the list for 2017, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and KU Leuven in Belgium. you can connect to the full list by clicking here.
