Manufacturing Day throughout the nation will officially take place Friday and dozens of Indiana companies, organizations and institutions are participating in events this week. Greater Lafayette Commerce is hosting its own version, which is expected to include some 1,700 area students, with a goal to "immerse our future workforce in advanced manufacturing."

The global founding partner of Manufacturing Day is Fabricators and Manufacturers Association International, which lists other events in Indiana throughout the week, including:

October 4

  • HFO Indiana – Gene Haas Training & Education Center in Lebanon will host presentations on space exploration and manufacturing
  • Lincolnland Economic Development Corp. and Purdue University will team up with local manufacturers to showcase the industry

October 5

  • Lincoln College of Technology in Indianapolis will host tours of the CNC Machining and Manufacturing Technology Department.
  • The Steuben County Economic Development Corp. will host the "Made in Steuben" manufacturing expo in Angola
  • The Vincennes University Jasper campus and Dubois Strong will host a gathering for high school students and local manufacturers

October 6

  • Daman Products Company Inc. in Mishawaka will host more than 90 students from Penn and Mishawaka high schools.
  • Fastenal Manufacturing in Indianapolis will host tours for students and the public.
  • Multiple Ivy Tech Community College campus locations throughout the state will host job fairs
  • JD Norman Industries Inc. in Kokomo will host events related to Manufacturing Day
  • Magna Powertrain in Muncie will open the plant for potential manufacturing employees
  • Petoskey Plastics in Hartford City will host student tours
  • Purdue University Northwest-College of Technology, CMEC and SME-Chapter 112 will host events throughout the day in Hammond including tours, a reception and keynote and panel discussion.
  • Rieth-Riley Construction in South Bend will host events related to Manufacturing Day
  • Schafer Industries in South Bend will host tours
  • TLS by Design Custom Furniture in Portland will host events surrounding Jay-Blackford Manufacturing Day

October 7

  • Primex Plastics Corp. in Richmond will hose an open house featuring facility tours, on-site interviews, popcorn, ice cream and bounce houses.
