Sister Jane Edward Schilling, along with Father Boniface Hardin, created what was then known as the Martin Center in 1970 and remained involved with the university until 2012. She was 87.
The Martin Center became Martin College in 1977 and Martin University in 1990. Schilling held a number of roles at the institution throughout her tenure, including associate director, evaluator, executive director, academic dean and associate director, vice president of academic affairs, and vice president emeritus and historian.
Schilling also served as executive director of the Sickle Cell Center in Indianapolis for 10 years. She retired in 2012 and moved to the Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she passed away on September 13.
Martin University says donations in Schilling’s name may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Louis. You can find more information by clicking here.
