Fort Wayne will no longer have two daily physical newspapers. The News-Sentinel, which traces its origins to the 1830s, says it will move "primarily to a digital product" in the coming months.

The publication says the move will enable it to produce more "timely, topical and in-depth coverage" of regional news without having to adhere to the afternoon print cycle.

The News-Sentinel has partnered with Fort Wayne’s morning newspaper, The Journal Gazette, for more than 50 years, and will continue to offer content in the morning print edition. The Sentinel says its newsroom and writers will design the editorial coverage on those pages.

Fort Wayne Newspapers Chief Executive Officer Mike Christman tells the publication, "The News-Sentinel will now have the ability to reach a wider range of audiences in Fort Wayne, while focusing exclusively on creating great, engaging content. The move will better position The News-Sentinel to serve its readers and the community in the digital era."

The News-Sentinel celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2008.
