Thomas Gilliom (pictured) has been promoted to chief executive officer of Wabash Valley Alliance, a nonprofit community mental health provider with 17 counseling and care sites in eight counties, including three in Lafayette. He replaces Rick Crawley, who served as CEO since 2003. Crawley will remain with the nonprofit, overseeing special projects.

Gilliom joined Wabash Valley Alliance in 2008 and most recently served as chief operating officer. He has worked his entire career-nearly 40 years-in the mental health field. Gilliom earned a degree in psychology from Ball State University in 1976 and a master’s in social work from The Ohio State University in 1978. He is a licensed clinical social worker.

Founded in 1938, Wabash Valley Alliance Inc. employs about 425 counselors, case managers, support professionals and administrators. It provides outpatient behavioral health and addiction care based on the needs of the communities it serves, with counselors and prescribers based at sites in Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Jasper, Montgomery, Tippecanoe and White counties.

Counseling services include marital/family, parent/child, work performance, stress/anger management, grief/loss, physical and sexual abuse, anxiety,  depression and others. The Alliance also operates a residential home staffed 24 hours a day and three homes staffed between 12 and 18 hours a day. It provides programs such as Beyond the Violence, to victims of domestic violence; Batterer’s Intervention Program, for batterers; the Path Program, for those who have been homeless and others.
