The city of La Porte has a new mayor. Mark Krentz has taken over for Blair Milo, who was appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb to serve in the newly-created, cabinet level position of secretary of career connections and talent. Krentz most recently served as talent attraction coordinator for the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corp.

He was selected Friday by a caucus of local Republican Party precinct members to finish the remaining two-and-a-half years of Milo’s second term in office. Krentz’s career includes nearly six years as a member of the city’s Board of Public Works and Safety and more than 15 years as a director of La Porte Savings Bank. Krentz spent even longer as owner and chief executive officer of Thanhardt-Burger Corp., which eventually joined with WT Burger Co. to become LAKE Fine Arts, a framing and arts business that closed in April 2016.

Milo’s first day in the new statewide position is August 14.
