Central Grocers detailed its intention to begin closing sales at the stores, located at 8401 Indianapolis Boulevard in Highland and 1200 Kennedy Drive in Kankakee, in documents filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The company has already closed Ultra Foods locations in Gary and multiple cities in Illinois.
The Ultra Foods store in Merrillville, which was previously slated to close, received new life last week after Indiana Grocery Group successfully acquired it, along with with 17 Strack & Van Til Markets and two Town & Country Markets. The group, led by Jeff Strack, will also take over Strack & Van Til headquarters in Highland and the company’s Valparaiso commissary.
Central Grocers, which was the parent company of Strack & Van Til and Ultra Foods, filed for bankruptcy in May.
