The beach, which was closed in 2013, is scheduled to open Friday at noon and the National Park Service says it expects big crowds.
The beach was closed after holes began opening up on the dune’s surface due to decaying trees. Safe access to the beach was also destroyed due to beach erosion, according to the park service.
After Friday, the beach will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and the NPS says beach area may be limited due to high lake levels. Visitors are being advised to arrive early on weekends and holidays to get a parking spot.
The NPS says visitors will no longer be permitted to climb the Mount Baldy dune, however there will be weekly ranger-guided hikes to the top of the dune offered to visitors.
