No Sale For Ultra Foods Stores
An auction for 11 Ultra Foods stores has ended with no successful bids. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois adjourned the auction until an unspecified date. Central Grocers Inc., parent of Ultra Foods, has already closed many of its stores.
The publication says it is unclear if the auction was adjourned because there were no bids made at all, or if the bids were dismissed for being too low. Central Grocers filed for bankruptcy in May after detailing plans to close nine Ultra Foods stores, including two in Indiana, in April. The closures, which took place last month, left 175 employees out of work.
Central Grocers is still planning to auction off its 19 remaining Strack & Van Til stores and its 930,000 square-foot warehouse in Illinois. Last week, a planned auction for those stores was delayed until Thursday, however The Times reports it is unclear when the results of that auction would be made public.
