Anderson Accepting Bids For Water Treatment Plant
The city of Anderson is moving forward with plans to build a new water treatment plant. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the Anderson Board of Public Works has set July 18 as the deadline to accept bids for construction of the nearly $8 million plant.
The plant will be built at the current location of the Lafayette water treatment plant, which the publication says has been responsible for the purification of the city’s drinking water for nearly 50 years. Anderson Water Department Superintendent Neal McKee says the new facility will have the ability to treat 10 million gallons of water per day.
Construction on the plant is expected to take 12 to 17 months to complete, which means it could begin operation in late 2018 or early 2019. The project is being funded through a 20-year, $14.2 million bond approved by the Anderson City Council last year.
The Herald Bulletin reports the bond will also be used to replace the four wells at the Lafayette Well Field, replace water mains in Homewood, and upgrade the Wheeler Avenue water treatment plant.
