Bloomington Creates Tool For Startups
The city of Bloomington has launched a new, web-based feature geared toward getting small businesses off the ground. Mayor John Hamilton says the Bloomington Business Quickstart tool is a "common sense innovation" to streamline the startup process.
The portal was developed in collaboration with Leadership Bloomington/ Monroe County and several city departments including information & technology services, economic & sustainable development and the office of innovation.
Hamilton says "Bloomington loves our small businesses. They are the foundation of our community — together they employ the majority of our workforce — and we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help them succeed."
Director of Innovation Tom Miller calls the effort "citywide" and says it was developed with community input. "As a city we have high standards for our businesses, but we want to make sure that folks have a clear understanding of those standards, how they impact their business, and how the city can help them comply with those standards. As a city we want to remove barriers to business activity. This tool is a great addition to that effort."
