Virginia-based Alion Science and Technology Corp. will join some three dozen tenants at the park when construction is complete in December. Daviess County Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Ron Arnold scores it as another win for the region and the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center and says the project is the first of more positive developments coming soon to the park.
Crane is located near I-69, which continues to undergo an expansion to take it from Evansville to Indianapolis and beyond. Arnold calls the infrastructure investment "the gift that keeps on giving." He adds the community is "very fortunate that (the road) was located where it’s at. It certainly will serve the park and the base and that was one of the missing pieces. With all the expertise and the human capital that that area possesses, there was still an issue of how to get things in and out and I-69 solves that problem."
Depending on the situation with defense contracts, Arnold says the park can have a total of anywhere from 400-700 employees. When officials announced the company would locate to the park in November, they said the new facility could employ up to 24 in its first year and as many as 60 over the decade. It represents the first new construction at the WestGate at Crane Technology Park since 2013. The park touches Daviess, Greene and Martin counties and the Alion facility will be located on the section in Daviess County.
Crane NSWC Commanding Officer Captain J.T. Elder says "our NSWC Crane team is most appreciative of the companies and technology experts who help us serve all branches of the U.S. military and the U.S. Homeland Security Department. We congratulate the executives of Alion Science and Technology for their expansion in the region."
