The Indy Fuel says Wayne Gretzky will take part in the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in January.
Gretzky began his professional career in Indianapolis as a member of the Indianapolis Racers at the beginning of the 1978-1979 season. He would go on to join the Edmonton Oilers in November of 1978.
The Indy Fuel says "The Great One" will be part of a pre-game ceremony at the coliseum and will drop the pick to begin the All-Star Classic game.
"We are thrilled to have the one-and-only Wayne Gretzky be part of the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic," said Sean Hallet, chief executive officer of the Indy Fuel. "Who better to help celebrate pro hockey in Indianapolis than the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of skates? With Wayne involved, this event will be something our entire community can be excited for – not just the hockey fans."
Gretzky won four Stanley Cup championships during his career, in which he also became the all-time leader in points, goals, assists, points in a season, goals in a season, and assists in a season. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.
