President Donald Trump has nominated a University of Notre Dame professor to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. Amy Coney Barrett currently serves as the Diane and M.O. Miller II Research Chair in Law and a professor of law at the university.

Notre Dame says Barrett teaches and researches in subjects, including federal courts, constitutional law and statutory interpretation. Before joining the South Bend campus in 2002, Barrett served as a clerk for Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Associate Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Barrett earned Juris Doctor degree from Notre Dame in 1997 and earned the Law School’s highest honor, the Hoynes Prize. She also served as executive editor of the Notre Dame Law Review during her time at the university.

Barrett’s nomination will be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
