Greenwood Team Among VEX Award Winners
A team of high school students in Greenwood has taken home one of the top awards at the 2017 VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville. The team joined 1,400 others from more than 30 countries at the event, which celebrates STEM education.
The Greenwood team, known as R.I.O.T. (Robotics Is Our Thing), won the VEX Robotics Competition Excellence Award. R.I.O.T. is an all-girls team made up of homeschooled students and is part of the Cornerstone Robotics group.
Three teams from China and California took home the high school world championship, while three teams from China and Singapore won the middle school world championship. You can view the results of the competition by clicking here.
This week, 14 Indiana high school teams are competing in the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis. The teams advanced through to the world championship after competing in the Indiana State Championship earlier this month.
The world championship runs through Saturday. The Indiana teams represented in the competition include:

- Purple Precision – Brownsburg, IN
- The Quadrangles – Bloomington, Indiana
- Maverick Boiler Robotics – Lafayette, IN
- Tribe Tech Robotics – Danville, Indiana
- GalacTech – Columbus, IN
- Wired Warriors – Whiteland, IN
