Job Site Targets Eastern Indiana

The Hoosier Opportunity website only displays available jobs in the region that pay at least $10 an hour. Registered employers in Jay, Randolph and Wayne counties can connect directly with interested applicants directly through email after searching the resume database.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County President Valerie Shaffer says Hoosier Opportunity does more than list jobs. She says the site shows employment opportunities are available outside of big cities. "There are hundreds of jobs available in our three-county area as new companies open, existing companies expand, and Baby Boomers begin to retire," says Shaffer. "Businesses think regionally and we need too as well when it comes to helping them find the qualified workforce they need." She says the website is part of efforts throughout the U.S. 27-connected counties to help meet current and future demands.
Randolph County Economic Development Executive Director Bruce Hosier says "the Hoosier Opportunity website provides a personalized approach in creating better opportunities for employers and potential employees to connect in a strategic, structured and focused approach for our region represented through this partnership. This initiative will help provide the quality career resources needed in addressing the workforce development challenges together, thus, building a better path forward for those served through our efforts." The resource focuses on what the counties say are targeted industry sectors. Companies partnering with Hoosier Opportunities can post a profile video along with information about what they do, career opportunities, pay and benefit packages.
Jay County Development Executive Director Bill Bradley says "the site will help bridge for many of our communities, the information gap that exists between jobs that are available and available candidates that may be interested in a career in eastern Indiana. It is all about making the connection between the two." He adds employers will also benefit from the "wealth of data" available through the site.
Shaffer says the site sprang from a similar concept in Ohio.
