Movies Flicker Again on Hoosier Theater Screen
A southeast Indiana landmark that dates back 180 years is again showing movies. The Hoosier Theater in Vevay has served at various times as a warehouse, the city’s first post office, the home of a newspaper and a community arts center. A $31,000 grant from Switzerland County Tourism has paid for digital projection equipment and a big screen.
Indiana Landmarks says the historic building first became a movie theater in the 1920s. It closed in the mid-1950s and was reopened in 1987 by Historic Vevay Inc. The theater will host monthly showings and additional events like free matinees during the summer. You can connect to more about the Hoosier Theater by clicking here.
