Public to Discuss City Contribution to Elkhart Aquatic Center
A public meeting is set Monday to discuss Elkhart’s proposed $2 million share of the planned $65 million Health, Fitness, Aquatics and Community Center. Council member David Henke tells The Elkhart Truth the project has been "very well laid out" and council seems to have a favorable view of its potential impact.
The City Council Finance Committee-of-the-Whole will take public feedback at 5:30 at City Hall. The publication says the committee will determine details of how the $2 million will be spent. Plans call for the funds to go toward a parking lot that will serve the center and public events in the surrounding area.
The center is a major key to wide-ranging plans to revitalize the city’s downtown. The project is being funded through a combination of sources including the Regional Cities Initiative, Elkhart Community Schools, Beacon Health System, the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, private companies and individuals and the city.
