The university says the programs will help address the state’s demand for information technology and nonclinical healthcare specialists.
The programs will be available to students beginning this fall. Students will be admitted to one IU campus but will have the opportunity to learn from faculty throughout the statewide IU system. IU Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs John Applegate says the degrees, each of which as 120 credit hours, will also meet the needs of students looking to advance their careers.
"We are excited to have these two degrees added to IU’s online offerings. Both will play an integral part in helping Hoosiers continue their education and expand their skills in ways employers need," said Applegate. "In addition, we are leveraging our expertise across multiple IU campuses to increase convenience and decrease costs."
The applied health science degree is being offered as a collaboration among IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast. The university says it is designed to "enhance potential for career advancement in entry- and midlevel positions in health-related organizations." Students will be able to choose between community health education and health administration tracks.
The informatics degree aims to jumpstart students’ careers in web development, supply chain management, medical records, systems analysis, biotechnology and public relations. It is a collaboration among IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend, IU Southeast and IUPUI.
The university says the new degrees expand IU’s online offerings to more than 110 programs.
