The university says a successful academic alignment attracting upper-class students back to campus and an anticipated large freshman class are contributing factors.
Mike Shettle, director of administration for University Residences, says Purdue will be able to house all beginning freshman students who have signed a housing contract prior to the May 5 deadline. He adds additional on-campus housing contracts through the summer may be limited.
Purdue has created wait lists for non-beginning students who want to live on campus next fall in order to meet demand. The university is also working with the Purdue Research Foundation on additional on-campus apartment-style housing.
"The high return rate to University Residences tells us that the continued success of our students and holding rates flat since 2012 has made an impact," said Barb Frazee, executive director of University Residences. "We were able to hold rates, provide raises for our staff and continue to build new halls, all while increasing the academic programs within our facilities."
Purdue says the additional housing will include the same services as a residence hall, such as a resident assistant, residential life programming and meal plan options.
