Jasper Breaks Ground on Parklands Project

Much of the park will be on the former Jasper County Club golf course.

The city of Jasper has officially begun work on a significant quality-of-life project. The 75-acre Parklands of Jasper will include a two-mile trail, water features and a pavilion.

The park will be located on the former Jasper Country Club golf course, which the city purchased in 2013, and 25 acres next to the property. The city bought the club for around $1 million borrowed from its Rainy Day Fund, which has since been repaid. Indiana’s Bicentennial Nature Trust, the Indiana Heritage Trust and other benefactors helped fund the purchase of the additional land.

Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz calls the project a "P4," or a public private philanthropic partnership. He says the park in the center of the community will be "a future destination for residents and visitors."
