Michigan City EDC Releases Annual Report
The Economic Development Corp. of Michigan City has released a report detailing its progress in 2016. The organization says plans for new investment in the community totaled nearly $21 million and existing businesses pledged to pump more than $6.8 million into expansion and retention efforts.
The largest new development announced in 2016 was the Silver Birch residential health care facility project, which is expected to create up to 50 jobs with a $20 million investment.
Highlights on the existing business investment front include Central States Manufacturing revealed $1.8 million plans that call for retaining 86 jobs and creating 15 new ones. Michigan Paper Box detailed a $1.3 million investment in new equipment that could add a small number of new jobs and retain 63.
The EDCMC logged activity last year that it says includes 14 active business development prospects, seven expansion and relocation projects, four new capital investments and 43 business expansion and retention visits.
The EDCMC says the annual report is a continuation of its strategic goals set in 2013, which involve:
