Indy Hosting Fencing Championships
The NCAA will hold the 2017 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships beginning Thursday in Indianapolis. The event at Indiana Farmers Coliseum will feature 144 competitors, including six Olympic fencers from last summer’s games in Rio.
The championships are being hosted by the University of Notre Dame and the Indiana Sports Corp. The event features a round-robin format which will include individual bouts in each of the six weapons: men’s and women’s épée, men’s and women’s sabre, and men’s and women’s foil.
The men’s events will take place Thursday and Friday, while the women will compete Saturday and Sunday. The Indiana Sports Corp says the field includes the top two foilists in the world, Alex Massialas from Stanford University and Lee Kiefer from the University of Notre Dame.
